Fun Outdoor Activities in Mississauga for Families

By Faisal · On December 26, 2022

‘Tis the season to be jolly! And, ’tis the season to travel with your family in a jolly way. But you already know that. What you don’t know is how to spend your winter holiday in Mississauga, Canada, right? Of course, that is why you are here, reading this article, after all. Don’t worry – we got you.

Whether you live in Mississauga or go there on holiday, you are in for a treat. This place is full of outdoor activities that are just waiting for you to try them out. With so many parks, trails, and beaches, you will certainly find something you like here.

But if you can’t find anything, we will help you out. We will share with you some interesting and fun outdoor activities in Mississauga for families that will keep you and your little ones entertained all winter long.

Have Fun in One of Many Parks

Even though Mississauga is one of Canada’s lesser-known destinations, it should not be neglected. It should be on everybody’s wish lists because it has some of the most beautiful parks and green spaces. One of the most popular parks in this area is the so-called Credit Valley Conservation Area which has hiking trails, a playground for children and pets, and a splash pad. Then, there is also the famous Rattray Marsh, where you can look at birds, smell the plants, and check out some amazing aquatic species.

If you’ve already seen these two, you can check out the following as well:

  • Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens
  • Erindale Park
  • Kariya Park
  • Meadowvale Conservation Area
  • Riverwood Conservancy

And, yes, you can visit all these parks even during the winter! In all of them, you can enjoy nature, have a picnic, hike, bike, play sports, fish, etc. Moreover, you can come here with your entire family for a snowball fight, sled race, or a good old snowman building when the snow falls.

Visit the Beach

Some of the best Mississauga parks are located on the beach! Yup, you read that correctly. So, if the weather is on your side, if the temperature outside is a bit higher, consider visiting the beach. Of course, keep swimming and doing all those water sports for summer. Use this winter weather to enjoy other fun outdoor beach activities such as treasure hunting, building sand castles, having a picnic, flying a kit, playing volleyball, etc.

But, since there are so many beaches in Mississagua, which ones to visit first? Well, the following 4 are the best of the best, according to locals and those visitors who keep on coming:

  • Jack Darling Memorial Park Beach
  • Richard’s Memorial Park Beach
  • Marie Curtis Park Beach, Toronto
  • Lakefront Promenade Park Beach

You will love visiting these beaches during the winter just like you would during the summer. You will love it so much that you want to move into one of the beach houses here. If that happens, no worries; you can let specialists help you out with all the moving-related tasks!

Go Skating

What can be more Canadian than ice skating? Nothing really – if you ask us. So, if you find yourself in Canada and want to do some fun outdoor activities in Mississagua for families, consider putting on some skates and skating on one of the many rinks here.

If you wanted to make your trip smoother (and lighter) and didn’t pack your skates, don’t worry, you can rent them. There are many places you can do that – in some skating shop downtown or in a shop right next to the skating rink itself (keep in mind that the latter will be more expensive.

Moreover, if you or your little ones don’t know how to skate, you can sign up for skating lessons. These don’t cost much (and on some days, they are even completely free), and they can be fun for the whole family.

Try Some New Sports

According to professional movers, sport is the number one reason people move to Mississauga. Some people move to play sports professionally, and some move as amateurs. If you want to move to Mississauga for the same reason (or for some other reason), feel free to ask Apollo Movers for some moving advice.

However, you don’t have to move to Mississauga to enjoy sports. You can also travel there. The number of outdoor (and indoor) sports activities you can do here is almost limitless. Thus, be sure you and your kids will use all that extra energy and sleep tight tonight. And, if you don’t feel particularly active, you can watch sports in one of many open fields and cheer for your favorite team.

Play Mini-Golf

Speaking of sports – why not try playing mini-golf? This is a great past-time activity, especially after being stuck in your Canadian hotel room for a long time. You will have a chance to stretch your legs, have fun, and not be too physically tired afterward.

Don’t worry; some mini-golf courses are open all year round. One of them is the Putt N’ Play Mini Golf. This place is amazing for adults and kids, those who love adventure and those who prefer something casual, and for both indoors and outdoorsy players.

As you have seen, there are many fun outdoor activities in Mississauga for families, so choose one that suits you and your kids’ preferences the most. And, if you have the time, check out some of the winter and Christmas markets here, too – they will leave your little ones speechless.
