As if you haven’t got enough Canadian music festivals to choose from this summer, Toronto’s beloved jazz festival is coming back again this summer to delight music lovers from all over. For the 32nd annual festival, the TD Toronto Jazz Festival combines paid and free shows held at locations all over the city, and the lineup this year is outstanding.
The festival will showcase the talents of Seal (Yes, that Seal!) Gregory Porter, the Bad Plus, Snarky Puppy, Herbie Hancock, Rennie Adams, and many more. The full lineup is available on the festival’s website, and if previous years’ reviews are anything to go by, the gigs will not disappoint. The festival draws some of the most influential jazz celebrities in the world to perform, and vents are held in all sorts of venues. There will be more than 150 free shows to attend in Yorkville, and paid events are relatively affordable compared to other jazz festivals of this size. Yorkville is also the perfect place to centre the festival, because it is accessible, walkable, and full of places to spend the day in between performances.
This year’s festival will also include a JUNO focus, celebrating Canadian artists who were nominated or won the awards. One of the best things about the TD Toronto Jazz Festival is that it is inclusive in so far as the talents that are brought to perform, and the styles and musicians are as diverse as jazz itself is.
Running from June 22nd til July 1st, the 10-day affair is expected to attract over 500,000 people as it has done in previous years. To purchase tickets to individual performances, visit the official website of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival. Be sure to purchase your tickets soon, you don’t want to miss this year’s lineup if you can help it!
