Ten More Things to do in Montreal Canada

By Faisal · On March 10, 2011

Montreal is best known for its authentic European atmosphere and sophisticated ambience. This city is one of the most popular cities in North America. Montreal boasts an incredible array of attractions and activities, including world-class museums, cultural venues, historic landmarks, a variety of entertainment options and unique nightlife.

Old Montreal and Old Port

Old Montreal is a treasure situated alongside the St. Lawrence River. This area was a fortified city at one time and is now a lively and unique community. This area has a distinctly European character, and features original cobblestone streets, alluring sidewalk cafes and historic architecture. Spend some time wandering the pedestrian-friendly streets and take in some local art or browse interesting boutiques.

Montreal Botanical Gardens/Biodome and Olympic Park

The Montreal Botanical Garden, Biodome, Planetarium, Insectarium and Olympic Park make up an outstanding educational and entertainment complex that no visitor to the city should miss. This is the perfect attraction for any time of year and is located within minutes from downtown. The Botanical Garden is one of the largest in the world and is described as a living museum featuring plants from all over the world. It features dozens of thematic gardens, several exhibition houses and an expansive arboretum.

The Biodome is another unique museum of the environment. The Biodome showcases an array of living collections made up of over 230 species and 750 plant species, in four functional ecosystems with different climates.

Mount Royal

Mount Royal is an important orientation point and landmark. It also provides breathtaking views of the city for those adventurous enough to reach its summit. The summit has a park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, designer of New York City’s Central Park. The lookout can be reached on foot, by bicycle, by car or bus.

The Tam-Tams are a casual group of outdoor drum performers that gather at the east base of Mount Royal near the Sir George-Etienne Cartier memorial on Sunday mornings from May through October. This is a fun, diverse community gathering and a Montreal tradition.

Jean-Talon Market

The Jean-Talon Market is most popular with Montreal residents, but this means better prices and more authentic experience. The Jean-Talon Market is the place to browse, have lunch or find the perfect souvenir. Come hungry; samples and taste testers abound. Many merchants offer workshops and cooking classes, and the market also beckons visitors with fromageries, bakeries, chocolatiers, wine shops, sushi, and maple syrup merchants.

Montreal Casino

Montreal Casino is the largest casino in Canada, consisting of three buildings. The casino offers thousands of slot machines, hundreds of gaming tables, several restaurants and bars, a cabaret, and extensive facilities. The casino maintains a vibrant and fun adult atmosphere and features unique architectural design. The casino is always open for anyone 18 or over.

Atrium

Atrium is an amazingly unique ice skating rink in North America, with over 10,000 square feet of indoor space under a glass skylit dome. Enjoy skating and special events in a comfortable climate all year.

La Ronde

La Ronde is Quebec’s most popular amusement park, featuring Canada’s fastest and highest rollercoaster, Goliath. The park also provides numerous other thrilling rides, a section for smaller children and loads of events and entertaining activities. La Ronde is a perfect summer attraction.

The Underground City

Montreal is known for its shopping and fabulous exotic boutiques. The Underground City is Montreal’s most famous shopping venue. This underground pavilion links several buildings and large shopping malls within the city’s downtown area. The Underground City provides safe and sheltered shopping for an incredible variety of merchandise and services, several food courts, movie theaters and other entertainment, and solves the shopping issues created by weather and traffic.

Notre-Dame Basilica

Notre-Dame Basilica is a neo-gothic structure famous for its ornate interior including incredible stained glass, paintings, sculptures, and gold carvings. The Basilica is the site of significant weddings and funerals, and events such as classical concerts and symphonies are held there as well.
