It’s no secret that Kensington Market in Toronto, Ontario, has some of the best food in the Greater Toronto Area. From Arabic food to Jamaican food, to everything in between, you’re bound to find something interesting to draw you in. With summer right around the corner, here are my top 5 foods to treat yourself to if you find yourself in Kensington Market.
Iced Matcha at Little Pebbles Café
This little bakery is a tiny zen oasis in Kensington, and it only has enough room to sit about 6 people. There are lots of delicious drinks and pastries, but my favourite has to be the iced matcha. It’s such a delicate treat to enjoy while walking around the neighbourhood, and it’s so refreshing on a hot summer day.
Rolled Ice Cream at Frosty Roll
Frosty Roll is a staple of Kensington Market, serving Thai-style ice cream rolls even in the city’s cold Decembers. You can watch the rolls formed in front of you, and you can pick anything from tropical fruit flavours to chocolate deliciousness a la Oreo crumbs. I love the Oreo ice cream rolls most of all, and they’re topped with fresh strawberries and even more oreo crumbs!
Cookie Sandwich at Sweet Olenka’s
Sweet Olenka’s is a tiny spot in Kensington with some of the best desserts in the city, with plenty of vegan and non-vegan dessert choices to help everyone enjoy a treat. From ice cream bars to cookie sandwiches, there’s something for everyone, but my personal treats are the cookie sandwiches. The cookies are always soft and delicious, and the ice cream is phenomenal!
Frozen Yogurt at Grk Ygrt
This tiny store is easy to miss, but you’ll be able to recognize it because of the gorgeous multicoloured steps leading to its door. You can pick your own toppings and combinations to make your own custom cup of yogurt, or you can pick from the delicious combinations that are on the menu.
Dole Whip at Seven Lives Paleteria
If you’ve ever been to Disneyland, you may have fallen in love with the Dole whips sold there. Seven Lives has taken that dessert and put their own spin on it, amping up the fruity flavours by topping Dole whip with pineapple juice, syrup, and a delightful little cherry. This dessert is also perfect for vegans and those who can’t have milk, because Dole whip is dairy-free!
