By Faisal · On March 22, 2011

Tofino, British Columbia, is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island and is touted as its most popular destination for outdoor-oriented visitors.

This area abounds in natural beauty from sandy beaches to rocky shores to protected forests.  With its incredible diverse natural world, Tofino and the nearby Pacific Rim National Park can’t be beat for the variety of outdoor activities. Wilderness hiking brings its own challenges and rewards in this stunning wilderness area. With miles of trails and diverse ecosystmes to choose from, hikers will find more than enough to satisfy them for a long time.
Wildlife viewing boasts a huge following in and around the waters here. In particular, whale watching is popular aboard either a luxury ship or on board a Zodiac for a wilder ride that gets you up close and personal with the wildlife.

Scuba diving in the rich waters off the coast has increased in popularity. Although the waters here are cold, they are also crystal clear and full of colorful and exciting inhabitants.
As long as you’ve got the dry suit handy, consider surfing. Outside  magazine has declared Tofino “the best surf town in North America.”
Another water sport that’s popular in this area is sea kayaking. Slipping quietly along the coast in a kayak will almost certainly guarantee the most diverse wildlife viewing.

Fishing is quite popular in the teeming waters off the coast. Salmon and halibut are much sought-after and can attain respectable sizes.
Throughout the summer season, group bike rides are available on Saturdays. Bicycling is a great way to see the sights of Tofino and experience the beauty of the waterfront.

For those less inclined to vigorous activities, Tofino hosts a variety of festivals. There is the Pacific Rim Whale Festival, the Tofino Shorebird Festival and the Pacific Rim Summer Festival, to name just a few.

During the winter months, the storms that slam into Tofino can be quite spectacular, making storm-watching another less vigorous but no less exciting pastime.
Finally, to get the big picture visitors can avail themselves of the floatplane tours for a bird’s eye-view of the spectacular and rugged scenery surrounding Tofino.
People who love unspoiled beauty can partake of these ten things to do in Tofino, British Columbia, that are guaranteed to leave them with wonderful memories of this pristine wonderland.
