Discover Vancouver on Canada Day

By Faisal · On June 21, 2011

There is little doubt that Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in North America. Standing at the Granville Island Market on a warm summer evening, you will be treated to a view of glass walled condos reflecting the night sky. Head downtown and see reminders of the Olympics of 2010 everywhere, or treat yourself to a ferry ride across the water to Victoria. If you are a tourist, you can rest assured that no matter where you go in Vancouver, you will have a great time.

Tourists thinking about visiting Vancouver this summer should grab some cheap flights to Canada and head there for Canada Day. The downtown core will be rocking with musical performances, art displays, and activities to suit all ages.

Take in the Canada Day parade from 7-8 pm as night falls over Vancouver. Or, simply spend the day walking through the beautiful city then grab a seat for the Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show. Starting at 10:30 pm, the fireworks will explode over the water from 2 barges located on the Inlet.

Although the Canada Day festivities are over after July 1st, Vancouver will keep you busy for days to come. Visit beautiful Stanley Park, located on the edge of the water, and view the boats coming into harbor. Jog along the seawall or stop into the Vancouver Aquarium for a quick visit with some friendly whales.

When you are hungry, Vancouver is the place to be. The variety of restaurants, bistros, and patios will make it a tough choice when its time to head out to dinner. Be sure to stop by Yaletown for some of the hippest food and drink establishments in the downtown area.

If it is shopping you are interested in, look no further than Robson Street. With both sides of the street peppered with brand name shops and bistros, Robson Street is one of the best areas to take in the electric vibe that comes from being in a Vancouver crowd.

For views, don’t miss English Bay, the waterfront of downtown Vancouver. Located at the end of Davie Street, English Bay is home to a beautiful beach and various street vendors. Relax and watch the waves lap onto the shore.

Vancouver is a city that never disappoints. Even in rainy weather, you will find something to keep you entertained while visiting Vancouver. The next time you are planning a vacation for your family, be sure to grab a cheap Canada Flight and head to Beautiful British Columbia.

I spend Canada Day in Vancouver before cycling across Canada – it was amazing!  Everyone was so festive – I was alone and met tonnes of great people! Shared a table on a patio with strangers – so friendly and inviting – we laughed our heads off into the evening!  What a perfect send off for a huge adventure!
